In Module 1, participants will delve into the realm of SEN and Strategic Leadership. They will learn how to foster a whole school commitment to inclusion, empowering all students to thrive in the learning environment. The module emphasises the significance of the SENCO's strategic role and provides insights into effective coaching and mentoring techniques for SEN staff. Ensuring equity of access across all provisions and setting up a school-wide SEN support team will be explored to facilitate a collaborative and supportive learning community.
Module 2 focuses on SEN and Education Regulations, equipping SENCOs with a comprehensive understanding of crucial regulations. Participants will gain insights into SEN and Safeguarding Regulations, as well as SEN and Attendance Regulations. As remote learning has become increasingly relevant, this module also addresses supporting SEN students working from home/online. Furthermore, participants will learn how to adapt the curriculum to best meet the needs of SEN students and make reasonable adjustments in accordance with The Equality Act 2010.
In Module 3, SENCOs will explore strategies to create an inclusive learning environment through effective SEN practices in the classroom. They will learn how to support collaborative and problem-solving approaches, fostering a culture of cooperation and shared learning. Additionally, the module focuses on developing in-class collaborative/group learning as part of daily practice, promoting a supportive and nurturing atmosphere for all students. Participants will also be encouraged to set up an SEN resource bank for the benefit of the entire school community and support teachers in embracing differentiation and multi-sensory teaching.
Module 4 delves into the intricate world of The SEN Student. Participants will gain insights into diagnosis and labels, understanding how to empower SEN students to develop resilience and self-reliance. The module emphasises the importance of supporting SEN students to work as independently as possible while distinguishing between SEN difficulties and neurotypical child development. Moreover, participants will learn effective strategies for working in close partnership with parents to create a united front in supporting the student's educational journey.
Finally, Module 5 offers an exploration of the Research and Developments in the field of SEN. Participants will gain valuable insights into the latest advancements in diagnosing and supporting various learning needs, including dyslexia, autistic spectrum disorder, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), and physical/sensory impairment. Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on learning will also be covered, enabling SENCOs to stay informed and relevant in their practice.
